What are the "rebates".

I got MM's Fox book this morning as a Christmas present, first edition.
On page 159 it says, "XE frames were filed with rebates at the top and bottom tangs".

Is there a table here, or on the members side, that lists the actual barrel weights and numbers per gauge and length? And what would be the wall thickness of the 4 barrel weights?
