Sterlingworth letter
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/SDyer/Foxletter.jpg Attached is John Callahan's letter Perhaps to the vastly knowledgable, this doesn't say much, but to those of us that have not been involved in the Fox history for years, there is information here that I can trust and build on. I know littl...

Callahan letter arrived in today's mail
Well, just about 8 weeks to the day, my letter for the Fox Sterlingworth arrived in the mail today. John reveals that the Sterlingworth, serial number 649xx, was shipped from Philly on March 17, 1913 to a O. C. Alderman with the following specs: Grade: Sterlingworth Field Gauge: 12 Ga Barrells: 28&q...

now's my time to join
Merry Christmas everyone....my best present for myself this year, other than spending time with my extended family, was the mail from my town hall that came on Christmas eve with my Class A license to carry large capacity! I have until now been 'lurking', as I felt that since I couldn't take the Fox...

Walnut stock blank
I apologize if this is posted in the wrong category, but am interested in advice at first, then perhaps will offer it for sale in the ‘Fox Parts’ listings, so here goes: Still new to the Fox world, and assisting my Dad in his move to assisted living, last night he handed me a rough cut blank for...

lead shot
I was actually speaking to a clerk at Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday (they were open whereas the local shop was closed) when I picked up a trigger lock, and he tells me that he has quite a bit of lead shot available, although steel is used more in the field, he tells me the lead is frequently used ...

lead vs steel shot
Thanks for your replies, everyone. Looking forward, I see myself using the Fox at the range more than hunting, so I'm not sure I'd be adding lead to wetlands. Some fellow surveyors posted this link, which is a pretty comprehensive article, although I found one typo. http://www.unep-aewa.org/publicat...

lead vs steel shot
OK, I was hesitant to ask, but can't find a straight answer anywhere. Do I need to be concerned about firing steel shot in my old Sterlingworth, where lead was intended when the barrels were made? Would one of the other alternatives be an option such as bismuth, etc. I don't intend to shot a lot of ...

Serial numbers question
As I learn more, I have more questions.
I notice that many posters 'blank out' the last two digits of their serial numbers.
Can someone explain why? Curious minds want to know....
Thanks

Researcher: Wow, I didn't expect such a thorough reply! Thanks I believe this is a 28 inch barrel as you suggest I will be sure to post the history of this piece as far back a dad can recollect. My office IT group doesn't allow access to photobucket for posting the photos, so I'll do that from home....

New Fox Sterlingworth owner
I have just inherited my dad's Fox 12 ga....what a beautiful gun. It has a serial number 649xx and has an 'H' on the bottom of the barrel also. I swear I can read a date on the bottom of the barrel that looks like Aug 1, 1904, but it is very difficult to read with 55 year old eyes. When I figure out...
