Does anyone know what the first HE serial number is/was? My research into the Super Fox serial numbers, now misplaced, showed my serial number, in the late 27,000 range, to be the first gun in the "second batch" of HE guns numbered. The "first batch" was also in the same range as I recall, but I may be incorrect.

waterman,
Welcome aboard. You will find tons of knowledge on this board and it sounds as if you have an very nice Fox. The Super Fox is a much sought after gun these days and you are very fortunate to have one in your possesion. Your gun does raise some questions however, that 22786 serial would put the gun as built around 1915-16 era which would be early for a Super Fox . Are you sure of the number? I have seen guns that have early serial numbers that were delivered years later from other guns of the serial# block but in the case of a super fox unlikely. Most of the early Super Foxes are in the late 27000- 28000 serial range. Do you have a Factory letter on the Gun? How is the water table of the action marked? Grade? patent dates? If your gun is a Super Fox it would be a very interesting research project. PS If you have any pics we sure would love to see them? Paul

waterman, I see you changed the serial while I must have been typing my reply that still may be one of the first Super Foxes. Maybe Researcher will chime in. Im sure he might have a good indication of the earliest serial #s . Paul

I have kept a little bit of a record of HE serial #'s and the lowest I've come across was 27800 well worth getting a letter from Mr Callahan if 27286 is indeed your serial #

Paul and whoever might be interested, the first Super Foxes were not numbered at random. The first batches were numbered together in groups of 25, if I remember correctly. So the first 25 would have been 27,800 to 27,825, then a break for other guns, then another 25 from 27,850 to 27,875. I may be wrong about the 25, it may have been 50. If Donnie's gun is really #27,826, my original theory would not be correct, obviously. I have misplaced my research notes and now can't remember how long they did it this way. When I had access to the records, I had no access to a copying machine so had to hand write all my notes and it got a bit confusing.

With regard to Becker boring the barrels-Mr. MacIntosh indicated Becker bored most of the Superfoxes. Mr Kidd wrote that he had a letter from Becker stating that he only bored a few. Perhaps a factory letter would help on this individual gun. I would hope that you would shoot the gun on occaision.

Waterman stated the barrels say not guarenteed. I was under the understanding that this had to do with the patern of the barrels. If the barrels are not guarenteed would becker have worked on these guns?
