Proper Pad?

Post by oldr31 »

I'd like to add a little LOP to my 20 ga. Sterlingworth. Right now I'm using a slip-on Limbsaver with the butt plate removed and it feels just right. I'd like to replace the slip-on with a permanent 1/2" red pad but I'm having a little trouble locating one. I don't want to cut the stock.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

It's not 1/2" thick but here's an option for the vintage look. The Fox HRBP is about 5/16 to 3/8" thick and by removing the buttplate and installing a thin Hawkins pad you'll end up with about 7/16" increase in LOP - or even less if you have the recoil pad installer make the black base thinner. I don't have any for sale, sorry, but you might be able to find one on the websites or by posting a WTB on the Members Forum.

20 gauge Sterlingworth, Galazan repro NoShoc. Very classic, very small between the screws, proper for any American gun made after 1922.

8bore: Thanks for the suggestion. Galazan NoShoc would be nice but it is 7/8" thick as listed on their web site. I don't want to cut the stock. They do list a 1/2" generic red pad and I am considering it.

My 12 ga. SW (early Utica) has the NoShoc which I believe is original. It measures 7/8"; same as Galazan lists theirs. By any chance do you have a different source?

Follow-up:...... Bought the 1/2" red pad from Galazan and installed it. Quite a bit of grinding but no problems. Got the 1/4" I was looking for and it really looks great. Does not appear "add-on" or phony. I am pleased. The color is a perfect match to the NOSHOK on my 12 ga.

I'd like to see a picture of how it turned out if you'd be willing to share.

Romac: I'm old and electronically challenged, so pics are a problem I have been unable to solve. If I could, I would.
