Summer Sizzler Side X Side Shoot at Drake Landing Aug 1st

You've all heard me rave about Drake Landing in previous posts, and Dan Andrews and Elizabeth Lanier have teamed up to hold the First Annual Summer Sizzler Side x Side shoot in August. If you are within driving distance and don't have anything on your calendar, please think about coming over to join us for this shoot. I'll be there, and I've already heard from several of our Parker brethren who will be in attendance. If you're planning to come post a reply here or PM me so that we can get a Fox squad together for an excellent day of shooting!

Summer Sizzler Side X Side Shoot
Please join us for the first annual Summer Sizzler Side X Side Shoot here at Drake Landing. The event will be held August 1, 2015. Please send a registration email to hunt@drakelanding.net to reserve your spot for upcoming event!!

The Details:
• 72 targets on one course; shot as a report pair, reverse pair & true pair
• 78 targets to be shot on the second course as a standard menu
• 50 targets to be shot at the 5 stand, 25 true pairs randomly selected with no show pairs

The Cost:
• $150 for 200 targets & lunch

Prizes:
• Prizes will be awarded per event winner, with on high overall winner
• Winners will receive a case of shells!!

Other Information:
• This event is for FUN
• Scores do not have to be recorded
• You may shoot 12 or 20 gauge, or even smaller
• You must shoot the same gauge for all targets
• Prizes will be awarded per event, not gauge
• 5 stand may be shot more than once for an additional fee

Well, it's been a busy week but I finally got around to pulling these photos off my camera to get them posted. I took these during the shoot last weekend at Drake Landing. I spent the day shooting with David Dwyer, Carl Brandt and Jim Hall, some good friends from the PGCA. We had a great time at this shoot. It was great seeing Bill Davis (and his wife) and Buddy Marson as well, and while I didn't get to shoot with them, we had a great time at dinner Saturday night with John and Alyssa Liles. I think there were around 40 shooters that showed for the one day shoot, and I'm hoping that Dan and Elizabeth can find a permanent weekend for this annual event. The format for the shoot was great, shooting report pairs, reverse report and then true pairs on every station. Everyone I talked too loved shooting the Five Stand, which was all true pairs, trappers choice with no previews. You really had to have your head on a swivel! Earl, one of the local shooters who teaches out at Drake Landing shot a 43 out of 50, and I think Carl Brandt shot a 39. Hope to see more of you at this event next year!

MIke, thank you so much for taking the time to snap, edit and post your pics. They called up some good memories of my time at Drake before the Spring Southern. It's a great venue and I expect to be there again next April. I see plenty of Parkers in the pics, several other makers, but few that looked like they might be a Fox. I know you were shooting one or more yourself but of course you were the photog. I wonder, is there a general apathy of doing events like Drake Landing by Fox shooters? Or just that the venue there in NC is well within Pahkaah terrritory?

Thanks Frank, and you're correct about the lack of Foxes at the event. Let's just say I could have broken one clay and been HOA shooter for team Fox. On the bright side, there were a number of manufacturers represented aside from Fox, with Parker and LC Smith being in the majority, but also some Model 21's and other makes as well. Having shot Drake Landing for several years now leading up to the Spring Southern, there is a growing group of Parker and LC Smith shooters who love Drake's that live close enough to make the drive for a one day shoot. I say that, but most are still spending one night and driving at least 3-4 hours from Virginia or South Carolina to get here so it's not exactly down the street for them. Guys like you and Craig and Mike have all shot at Drake Landing and know what a great venue it is, but it's not feasible for most of the Fox shooters that I know well to travel this far for a one day shoot. I can point to maybe two other local Fox and LC Smith shooters that possibly would have come if it hadn't been for a registered shoot they were working at a neighboring club. I'd love to find more Fox guys in the NC area who would be willing to shoot, especially if there were some who shoot on a regular basis. That goes for more than just Drake Landing too, as I'm more than willing to hop in the car and drive a few hours to do a little shooting somewhere.
