Fox A grade 20 gauge

Just bought a fox A grade with serial #200572A could someone tell me a little information about this gun also why does the serial # have the A in it? thank you Jim

Hi Jim,
Could you post some pictures? The Fox serial numbers did not have a letter suffix. It is more than likely that the grade stamp is just close to the serial number, making it look like part of the number.
You can get more information on the gun by joining up and using your free serial number look up, or you could write to John Callahan and have him research it. His information is on the homepage, click on Mechanisms/Identification Styles, then click Factory letter. John will send you a letter as to how and when the gun left the factory for $40.00 if the card is on file.

Does your gun have Krupp barrels and what type of forearm is it fitted with?

yes the gun has Krupp barells,and the foreend is the push on style,my question is why did the action turn brown in color?some other foxes that i have seen the action turned more to a shine,also what kind avalue do you guys put on this gun it does need the wood redone and the checkering recut, and the barells reblued,is also wise to do the case colors?thank you Jim also do not know how to post photos.

Interesting transitional guns that have the 2nd generation "Billy Gough" style engraving, but still have the snap-on/off forearms. The only one I ever had an opportunity to buy was a great looking little 20-gauge gun down at a gun shop in Wytheville, Virginia, a couple or three decades ago. But, I passed because it had 25-inch barrels. I wonder now it they may have been right.

Your gun may have a regular forged steel frame. The frames with high chromium content "Chromox" tend to really shine when they wear. In my college days when I did a lot of waterfowling with my Super-Fox, and I wore Army surplus wool gloves, the bottom of my gun's receiver was shiney like a new nickel. No matter how much I've carried my 1914-vintage A-Grade over the last 45 years, it has never developed the shine of the Super-Fox receiver.
