What could I expect to pay for a 16ga CE?

Post by sage1 »

Hoping to get an idea on what I could expect to pay for a 16ga CE grade in good original condition, good enough to last me another 20 years or so and pass on to my boys? My ideal gun would be 26" barrels and just under 6lbs.. Thank you, S1

I should ask what an AE grade would run, I probably have an AE budget but really enjoy the CE engraving.

The CE will probably cost about the same as the first year of tuition, books and room and board at an Ivy League school for one of your boys.

The AE will cost about the same as tuition, books room and board at a good State College.

Been there and done that.

Although I am sure he is one of this Board's many bona fide Fox experts, either Twice Barrel doesn't know what Ivy League schools annual costs are or he doesn't really know the market on 16 ga graded Foxes :? ... I highly doubt that a nice CE 16 ga would cost $60,000+... perhaps 25% of that. AE 16 ga can be bought for < $5000K. I bought a very nice 28" CE 16 a few years ago for $4500 while shopping a well known gun shop, although it was a Savage era gun. Having said that graded small gauge Foxes above A are not that common.

One sold last week at Julia's Auction for $4600 including premium. It was a late Philly with (I think) a replacement stock. Last month, a 1921 CE went for $5175. It had a repaired wrist crack and speckled barrels. For full retail offerings, you can check Puglisi and Galazan for high condition guns.
