I have a 12 gauge AH Fox double barrel shotgun manufactured in the 1940s and it appears that the left hammer is broken. Does anyone know if parts are available for this type of gun? Also is there anything I should being looking for regarding gun smiths to do repairs on this gun. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Rich

There's a couple used ones on Gunbroker right now dependent on what model Fox you speaking of. Just go to Gunbroker.com and search for Fox Hammer.

Re: Broken left hammer
I had one break and decided the simplest, most expedient fix was to weld it.

A replacement will require fitting. If it's new old stock, it can almost certainly be fitted but it will cost you a couple hour's shop time...$100-200? if you can't do it yourself. If it's from another gun, it could be a gamble. Having been fitted to one gun, it may be undersized for another.
You can have it welded by a gunsmith as I did ($50), hopefully with no dimensional changes, and find it reassembles perfectly and without adjustment and serves you well indefinitely. If it doesn't work, you're out the cost of the welding but still have the more expensive replacement option.

Beware the man with one gun...he likely will bore you to death in others ways, too.

Mike:
Do you have a picture of the welded hammer? That is a great picture of the broken hammer and I was wondering if you had a picture after the weld. Thanks

Sorry, no. I posted that pick when I was seeking advice about having it welded. Afterwards I just installed it and went shooting. So far, I've shot well over 1,000 rounds with no problems. If it breaks again, I'll be bummed but it was worth it.
