Brian,
The gun looks spectacular. Love the detail of the grouse on the floor plate!

Brian, curious if you’ve had a chance to put the grouse gun to work yet? I continue to look at and admire the pics of the gun and the incredible workmanship/engraving/checkering! Well done from all involved!

Unfortunately, the weather has not cooperated. after deer season I was going to go back to where we flushed a bunch of grouse on my property, way up on topo of the mountain. But the snow got deep, then crusted and hard to walk and just never improved for the dog or me.
Maybe some preserve birds in March. But this fall it will get a workout. Ill have a new dog to hunt with (French Spaniel. Its not a Britanny)

Spaniels, especially Springers, make the best engraving subjects. When The Lovely Linda came to live with me more than 30 years ago, she brought two wonderful Springers with her, along with two boats, a four wheel drive truck, and a flock of shotguns.

Gentlemen
NY (Catskill Mountains) Grouse season has been the pits. almost no birds.
The Adirondacks on the other hand were spectacular. in 3.5 days we flew 96 woodcock and 4 grouse.
first day we flew 50 WC. that's not counting what we thought were re-flushes. If we think it was a re-flush we dont count it.
This was her first hunting on wild birds. She still needs work, she was only 8 months. she is steady to the flush and the shot. she is still bumping bords due to her enthusiasm. this will be corrected this year. And she has to work on her whoa command. still not consistent. but I attribute all of that to lack of maturity. Training will correct all.
but damn she is a solid pointer. she locks on a bird, there is no distracting her.
And she is so friendly and affectionate. And good with people and other dogs. i cant say enough about how happy I am having "discovered" this breed for myself.

Wow! You did a lot of hunting and bumped a lot of birds. Sounds like you have a great dog and your finished gun looks beautiful.
Shoot vintage firearms, relax, and have fun.

Amazing number of birds! Nothing like it when you catch the flight just right.

Brian, thanks for the update and pics. Pup looks great and so does the gun. Getting that much wild bird contact will certainly help with her maturity and trading. Well done!!!
