philladelphi fox serial 603

Post by WS603 »

good day, there are two small cracks at the wrist of the shotgun in question. i would like to remove the stock to effect repairs. i have done this type of repair on L C SMITH guns with good results. there is a nice description of disassembly on this site. however the trigger plate of this shotgun has three screws, not just one. question being what is the function of the right and left screws as they relate to disassembly/ any info would be welcome. thank you.

It is a Philadelphia Arms gun, not an A.H. Fox. They are different. Your gun seems to have an outrageous amount of case color for an original gun. Congratulations if it is original finish.

i took the trigger guard off to look at the crack but semi put it back on for photos, that is why the one screw is not fully in place

That is a Philadelphia Arms Co. Fox gun, not an A.H. Fox Gun Co. Ansley H. Fox gun. Totally different mechanism. The bolting and lock mechanism from the 1905 Philadelphia Arms Co. catalog --

Researcher, still getting used to this forum stuff. yes it is stamped Philadelpia Arms Co on the rib and Fox on the receiver, hence the subject title. thank you for the photos of the fox literature. it looks like the screws i am asking about simply screw into the material in the area of the cocking slides. my guess is as the design evolved it was determined they were not necessary for purposes of retaining the trigger plate and eliminated.

Great bit of history you have. Thanks for showing this early Fox creation.
