Slow waterfowl season

For me, it’s been a very slow waterfowl season, but I still like getting out there. No luck on ducks today, but I did get a goose.

How about the rest of you? I know that there are some great waterfowl and upland hunters in this group and I sure would like to see your pictures.

I would have thought that the rain and wind from this a.m. would have been moving more birds. Hopefully there will be more this afternoon if you are in the blind!

You are correct. I saw a few woodies that have been absent all Fall. Unfortunately they didn’t “drop in”.

I had a good early season here in the Finger Lakes even though I was never on the X. We were covered up in teal. The woodies stage on our marsh in the hundreds but they only stayed a few days before moving south. Very few big ducks. We open again on December 7th which is the latest second split ever, I'm hoping we get a few good hunts in before freeze up. In late December and January it's all hunting on the big lakes. I decided this year that Fox guns will be my only choice for duck hunting. So far I have shot my A grade, C-HE and my pawn shop DE.

We've only had the short, early teal season so far, and didn't have any teal where I hunt. Awaiting the next season with hope.

Climate change appears to have affected all types of upland and waterfowl hunting. Early reports from members and friends gone to the upper midwest (WI, MI) as well as far northern New England (ME, NH, VT) in the past few weeks relate an abundance of "summer ducks" (per Craig's report) but scant movement of other species, and woodcock hunters have reported a few resident birds but very few flight birds moving down from the Candian maritimes. Whacky weather for sure: last Friday morning it was 38 degrees on MD's Eastern Shore at daybreak; yesterday it reached 84 here in NOVA. Kevin

We enjoyed another banner year up here. Plenty of ducks of all species but I mostly shoot Pintails and Mallards and lot's of Canada geese in all sizes, Specks and Snows. I hunted with other guns but did enjoy hunting with my Sterlingworth a few times this year.

We still have plenty of birds here now which is unusual but they'll be on their way south in a few days.

That’s an amazing display of green heads. Canada must be the place to be. Kudos to you for your hunting skills.
