Missing sear axle screw

I just have to take things apart sometimes. I thought I'd take a look inside my 16g SW. When I removed the triggerplate, I saw that the sear axle set screw was completely missing! I suppose I'm running the risk of the sear axle drifting out on its own.

Should I worry about this? I've searched for the part with no luck so far.

Spyder,

My "new to me" CE 12 gauge had the sear shaft protrude about 1/16 inch following a round of sporting clays.

I disassembled the gun and found a 2-56 set screw (that would not tighten) rather than the proper 3-56 set screw--I put in the proper set screw and solved the problem.

My CE is a 1909 gun and may not have the same sized set screw as the small frame Foxes.

There are at least two sizes of these screws. Be sure the replacement screw doesn't protrude above the sear frame boss; otherwise it will keep the trigger plate from seating properly in the frame. In a given gun the hammer pin set screw is the same size and thread pitch as the sear pin screw, but the hammer screw is usually a bit longer. If you find a replacement original screw it may be a longer hammer pin screw and in that case you'll want to shorten it. Silvers

So, a 3-56 set screw cut to length should do the trick?

I've often seen subtle variation in major diameter....from .118-.125, even in the same gun. That said, I've never fashioned a replacement from anything other than a 5-40. My #5's mike .120-.121 (nominal .125).
