I dug thru my old catalogs and found a 1932 Sears edition that list a 16ga Sterlingworth Deluxe with 30" bbls available. Sorry about the fuzzy scan. If I get a chance I will take a digital pic of the add and post.

I am looking at a 1939 A.F. Stoeger catalog page which describes the 12, 16 and 20 ga S/W Deluxe. Lyman ivory bead sights, Jostam Anti-Flinch recoil pad. "Made in the following lenghts: 28, 30 or 32 inch . barrels." "Any boring at no additional charge". "Sterlingworth Deluxe with Ejector.....$59.25"

I guess Sears and Stoegers knew more about what the boys on the factory floor were producing then the boys in the office in Utica doing the Fox catalogues!!!

After reading this old thread, I can understand why the Poulin Fox Sterlingworth Deluxe 20 gauge with 30" barrels pulled in such a hefty price tag..........

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail. ... XS-SHOTGUN.

RARITY ! With Callahan letter, and to me an unique gun, using old stored away receiver from Philadelphia, but not shipped until 1933 from Utica.

For 1930, Savage Arms Corp. inserted this flyer in the 1928-9 A.H. Fox Gun Co. catalogues that they pasted their name and address over --

Savage Arms Corp. was already doing the same thing to their J. Stevens Arms Co. Stevens No. 330 --

Image

and they did the same thing to their Springfield Arms Co. No.315 and called it the No. 3151.

Similarly, in 1931, Ithaca Gun Co. was offering the same sort of deal on their Lefever Nitro Specials --

Image

and their Field Grade NIDs --

And, I repeat, what the hell difference does it make whether the gun is a Fox-Sterlingworth with the options of a recoil pad and twin ivory sights or a Fox-Sterlingworth Deluxe?

Well, looks like it made a difference to at least a few bidders.

Must be a great gun. However, I wouldn't have paid a nickle more than $3895.

That kind of money for a gun with a repro pad on it!! Wonder what that makes my Fox-Sterlingworth Ejector Deluxe 16-gauge with beavertail forearm worth --

Overall, the 20 bore Fox draws a lot of attention every time they come up.

Hammer price at $3900, plus at least a 15% premium.

I can't figure out why someone would take such great care of the original condition of this gun but yet not leave the original pad on the gun no matter what condition it was in, at least include the old pad with the sale.

I bid on it far past where I was comfortable, and still didn't get it. It went for $4,700 with the juice, and that's creeping into graded smallbore territory. The pad is a shame, because the rest of the gun is minty.
