I'm sure you will still have some there. We just had some migrators show up this week in Va. You can always tell the ones that migrate. They don't want to fly because they are tired, but they will run like an 18 year old chasing a cheerleader. Sophie can handle the runners fine. Me not so much as when they finally get pinned they tend to come out low and fast. Tough shooting in this soup.ROMAC wrote:Tom,
I'm sorry to say I have not gone yet. My core group of buddies are not big deer hunters and they went on opening day of the PA deer season over to NJ to catch the migration. They did very well. They sent me this photo to rub it in a little at about 2:00, at about 4:15 I sent them one of my own in return! I shot a nice 7 point late in the day. I do have plans to go a little later in the month after the main NJ deer season ends.

Our second split has now opened and the birds have just about left the area. Almost 3 hours behind a very determined Sophie only provided 2 pointed birds. One whiff and one got a ride home in the truck. Going to try a new area next week closer to the coast. Hoping those birds are still around, but in reality with this cold blast coming in Sunday we could be done for the year.

Tom,
I went yesterday to Southern NJ again. We had about 9 flushes and brought home just 2 birds, one each.
One area we went was a total bust, nary a scent and no chalk as far as we could see.
The second area was a lot better. We hunted extremely thick brambles that edged the phragmites along the bay. It was rife with those green sticker vines that shred everything and hurt like hell.
