Surprised to see this gun does not have any stock/receiver interfacing surfaces different than A, B, or C grade--no rebates. I thought it was "common' for X grade and higher to have rebates.
Is this gun an original X grade or an upgrade??

Some XE's didn't have rebated frames. It sure looks like an original gun, not an upgrade. The engraving of the fox on the trigger plate is one version, there's another one that looks more "foxy" IMO. The XE-Grade began appearing in 1913 and was first called such in the 1914 catalogue. In the 1913 catalogue it was shown as a Special Trap Gun they had made for a well known shooter. The rebates began appearing about 1915. The lock screw on the top tang screw and whether or not the breech is profiled to accentuate the rib is a real crap shoot!!
