Engraver Initial DTO

Post by Researcher »

While looking through my pictures of early Ansley H. Fox doubles for a recent post in the member's forum, I noticed the initials DTO on a fence rail in the game scene on the bottom of serial number 121, the gun made for A.H. Fox Gun Co. director and secretary Frank J. Barthmaier.

Anyone know of a 1905 vintage engraver with those initials?

I didn't see those initials when I actually had the gun in hand back in the day when David Trevallion had it at one of the Vintage Cups at Orvis Sandanona. Lighting in those tents not too good!!

Mr X. I named him in a NL article about the three different early engravers. Whoever he was he engraved the majority of early style guns CE grade and higher.
The Philadelphia mint may have a list of engravers during the period.

I keep a copy of that article in my truck at all times. You never know when you might stumble upon the work of engraver "Z".
Shoot vintage firearms, relax, and have fun.

Speaking of engravers are their other guns that have been initialed by the engravers? I don’t own one that I have ever seen initials on. Although I don’t have any early guns. Brett
