How to know if barrels are cut

Post by David Penland »

I am looking to buy a shooter 20 gauge Sterlingworth for my grandson. It has a LOP of 13 1/4" which would fit him now and could be extended with a pad as he grows. Barrels are 26" and seller says the choke are in between IC/MOD and MOD/Full. SN is 258328. Is there any way to know if these barrels have been cut short of a production card and would $1150 be a fair price for this gun. Thanks

IMO if the chokes are 4 plus inches long then they haven't been cut. If the barrels touch at the ends they probably aren't cut either. Regarding price, 20's are the one's everyone seems to want. If the gun is in good shape overall and tight on face etc. then that seems to be a fair price indeed if the barrels haven't been cut.

Not that it means a whole hell of a lot, the other Sterlingworths I've recorded in the 258xxx range are 26-inch.

Production card would be my choice. But, for $1150, I would just shoot it.
