Original sling mounts?

Post by Rogue Hunter »

Anyone here own a Fox that has the original sling mounts? Got pictures you could post. I'm most interested in the front mount; was it mounted on the forend or barrels?

Typically mounted on the barrel bottom rib.

I have Ithaca and Parker guns that have what I think are original swivels, but no letters. The front swivels are screwed into the lower rib. Personally, I would not trust a soldered base for a front swivel. I would not think of mounting a front swivel on the forend.

Rogue Hunter. I have seen one Fox w/lettered sling studs. This was a savage era gun and they were the “fish eye” type used on Savage 99’s of that era. The forward stud was mounted to the bottom rib ahead of the forearm but can’t recall if it was screwed or soldered on. I believe Poulin’s Auction House also had one a couple of years ago. May look through their archives to see if you can find pics.

These are on a gorgeous XE. I have seen 2 other Fox guns which lettered with sling provisions and all the hardward has been different.

The HE certainly, and the XE likely, were ordered as waterfowlers. Makes much sense for some of us to like a strap on a duck gun. I don't care for them in upland hunting. ( I'm aware I'm probably in the minority on that). Sure as I sling the gun over my shoulder I'll have an unexpected flush. Not an issue with ducks, usually.

Tom, that's a nice , sturdy looking set on that XE.

Hi Stan, glad you're doing better! Yes, that is definately a sturdy "deluxe" style fitted to that stellar XE.

Those guns shown seem seem backwards. It appears to me that Craig's gun has eyes for "strap hooks" and the gun Tom pictures has "Swivels"? Guess I'll have to send my mind in for regrooving!

Marshfellow's swivels were not as ordered. Hooks are hooks and swivels are swivels. At least we have a couple of factory examples, even though they might not match the letters. I think "hooks and eyes" are much more elegant although they don't match the letters.
