I'm getting an early CE 32" Fox restocked for clays and hunting, to include a new forend. I want the new forend to be XE length. However I don't have a profile of the tapering at the front end of the XE type. Can I interest a member or two with a 12 gauge XE to measure the WIDTH of your forend, every 1" back from the tip? You can put a piece of masking tape on it with pencil marks every 1 inch, then measure across the sides with a vernier or similar at each 1" increment. PLease reply to me with the measurements by PM, or you can post them here. Something like 1" = X, 2" = Y, 3" = Z, etc.
Also, please tell me what barrel length you have. My friend Marshfellow PM'd to say there seems to be some difference in length of the forend wood for different barrel lengths.
PAYMENT: I'll buy you a couple of cocktails while at the Vintagers this year. Thank you, Frank
Sorry Frank, mine's a fake. 'Just done 'in the style of an X'. It's longer than a standard (shorter) AE but shorter than the late high grades by about an inch or so as near as I can tell in pictures from Mac's book.
Thanks Chuck, I follow your postings on the doublegunshop and know you do really high quality work on both wood and metal. I'd like this forend to be a little longer and it won't have the ebony tip. Your ebony is very well executed but it's just personal preference. I'm hoping to get some measurements from a factory XE to mimic its shape on this latest project. Nothing so far Frank
