A little off topic, target ammo price increases

I shoot a lot of modern target ammo in my over-under guns and then a friend who reloads makes the hulls into into lower pressure shells for my Fox and other doubles. I know many other Fox enthusiasts do the same.

Just to let the "volume clays shooters" know.... one of the largest gun and ammo distributors here in the east has just raised prices (again) on popular target shells. Remington Gun Clubs, Winchester Super Targets, Estate Super Sports and Federal Top Guns are now in the $59.00-62.00/flat range for 12 gauge. The premium target shells like STS's, AA's and Gold Medals are now in the $70-80.00 range and would you believe that Federal PAPER shells are at $100.50 per flat!

Again, these are popular target shells, loaded up to current SAAMI max pressure - too high for vintage double guns. However some are a good source of hulls for low pressure shells. Those that do the same as me may want to look at your inventory and consider buying more before the price increase trickles down to the retail stores. I don't have a crystal ball but I'm thinking the prices aren't coming down any time soon. Silvers

Why off target. If you don't have ammo, you can't shoot the gun.
birdawg Alliant and IMR powder have great web sites for reloading info.

Looks like an ad touting carrying vehicle capacity.
I will have to see if those are the same as the Remington game loads.?
I do have a few thousand of those in 16.

If Im not mistaken the Remington "Gun club" are the same hull internally as the STS but with steel base and maybe slightly lighter plastic ribbed hull.
the STS load really nice for me I use them for a 1 1/8 bismuth duck load at 1205 FPS and 8700 psi.

and in regards to shoshell prices I heard the same today at my friends hardware /gun store. I bought a flat of 12 ga. 1 oz Estates for $45.00 he said enjoy! because the next ones he gets are going be in that $65-70 range.

I believe the green gun clubs are 3 piece hulls where the STS are 1 piece.The 3 piece just don't have the longevity. Few people are loading 12 ga. around my way giving those who do more shells than they ever thought of.

I'm down to about twenty seven flats of Game Load 16s. I wish I had that many 12s and 20s the way the prices are going.

I am getting rid of them as fast as my dog can hold these da#@ desert quail. I left Idaho with 4 flats and bought 2 more on the road. You would have thought I would have had enough sense to have something besides 1 oz of #6s. To make matter worse (woe is me

) I only brougth my 16 sw, 16 ae, md21 in 16 and a 30" dehann 28 ga.
My 2 year old GSP has figured out how to pin these quail so I don't need 30 yard shells right now. I may have to go to the 28 ga for a couple of days.

I too need more 12,20 and 28 ammo

birdawg, Sorry I wasn't clear on my post.I am only looking for the empty 16 ga. shells. I am fortunate enough to have plenty of shot and I load all my own specialty loads for my doubles. Nothing shoots sweeter than 7/8th ounce out of my fox 16. I buy the game loads and shoot them from my Mod.12 to get cases for my doubles.
We all should have the problem of too many birds. Happy Huntin.

Whisperbow, I have never been able to throw away my paper 28 empties. I started shooting them in 1960 when I bought my first 28. Some day, I'll load them up again and shoot them one last time. I don't know what happened to the blue Peters with the label on the crimp. I seem to only have kept the red Winchesters.

Straightshot, my camera has been travelling and it's back home again. I took a pic of a Gun Club. I'm not a shotshell reloader myself but it appears to me that the Gun Clun hull is one piece. See pic. Frank Silvers

BTW, the 16 gauge low pressure group has some very good data on low pressure loads. Of course mostly for 16 ers.

The Gun Club Hulls are fine for reloading I have started using them I found a Place to get them cheap if anyone needs any just email me or send me a PM I can give you the information I am not advertising just trying to help out fellow shooters
