***Fox Toy Shotgun***

Hey everybody,
My grandpa gave me this toy shotgun to find out some history and price information on it. He is interested in selling it in order to buy another shotgun. Any help would be great!

Looks like you have a lot of the accessories which is good. I know some folks pay a lot of money for these; collectors are crazy

Shawn,

Your Fox toy gun set is one of the more complete sets that I have seen.

You appear to have the instructions for using the toy gun. Never seen one of those. You have the bell which is the bullseye of the target that came with the gun. What is that red tag.

Some of the pictures make it look like the gun itself was stripped of its blue finish and then chrome (?) plated. Is it plated or does it have the original blue finish?

You're lacking the box that it came in. Picture of the box below.

How much is your grandfather asking for his toy gun? Might be some interest on this forum.

The red tag states: Important- This Top Lever must be pushed to right to open gun, Shells 50c each, Bag of Balls, 15c, Ask your Dealer, A.H. Fox gun company, Philadelphia, Pa.

So I am guessing this was tagged on the gun.

As for the chrome, (I am not an expert) but it looks to be on since the gun was made, it seems to be coming off on one side and a lighter metal underneath, but does not look blueish. Hope this helps.

I have no idea where to start on pricing of the gun, but I searched back on the forum and did not find that much info. maybe you can help with a starting price?

Thanks for the extra info.

I have never seen or heard of a Fox Toy Gun with bright plating. Doesn't mean that Fox never produced one tho.

You might not find much history and prices here on the Fox Forum. More likely to see that on ebay where they do come up for sale occasionally. Hard to say about putting a price on the gun with the bright finish on the gun. If after market, it would devalue the gun but if you could some how verify it being original, that could add value. "Ya gotta buy the gun and not the story" type thing.

With that said, I could be a potential buyer as well as others on this forum. At one time I had 7 of them, I'm down to 4 now with two in the original boxes.

Both my boys enjoyed shooting them in the cellar when they were kids. Those wood balls are easily replaced. I got identical replacements at a craft store: 4 for a buck. The correct marked bags tho are not replaceable.

Those wood balls were also available in a small 3" x 5" or so size manila colored paper envelope. Had similar writting on them, ie, replacement catridges, balls, etc.

I have been messing with the Fox Toy Guns for years. On ebay I've seen rusty guns without the shells sell for as little as $52. A nice gun, with the shells usually goes in the high $200s. I've seen the bags of balls sell from $65 to $95. I saw a gun in the box with all the accoutraments go for $865. The only Fox Play Gun brouchure I've seen auctioned went for $207.50.

Tom Kidd did an article on the Fox Play Guns in The Double Gun Journal, Volume One, Issue 3.

Flatlander Tom,

I think Fox made the toy guns beginning around 1926 or so. Fox Gun Company and Fox Products made them into the early 1930's I think.

Researcher may have it pinned down better than that but that's my guess.
