I want to put a recoil pad on a Fox Sterlingworth, It has a concave butt stock. I know one would not want to cut the stock. Does one heat the recoil pad base to fit the concave of the butt stock? Was thinking of the Hawkins recoil pad. Any advice on this matter?
Thanks,
Clay

If you can pick from a few new-old-stock Hawkins I'd suggest choosing one that already has a convex base surface. Many do. That would facilitate putting it on a concave butt.
If you have only one pad and it's fairly straight you might try heat bending, but I've never done that so I can't offer personal advice. A perhaps better alternate to bending would be to spot and fit the pad base to the concave butt by sanding the top and bottom of the pad to match the butt radius. Very exacting work. Old pads already on guns often have thinner bases at the top and bottom of the pad which suggests that's how they were done.. Silvers
