Looks like I got another variety for yur collection then. Mine has "The Sterlingworth Company - Philadelphia PA. U.S.A" (no period after the A) on the left barrel. And "Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel Made By" on the right barrel.

Just a coupla questions: (1) several refer to a "slotted pin" type; is that like mine with slotted (removable) screws covering the actual pins?. and (2) Many refs to a "philly" gun - some pictures show Philadelphia abbreviated to Phila, but mine spells it all out - comments?

I have S/N 50243 and it's a "Sterlingworth Company - Philadelphia PA. USA", The pins are recessed and covered with slotted cap screws. 12 guage 30" barrels and with the "Pointy" side panel.

How bout when you are all done, flushing out with some alcohol or acetone? Should speed up the drying out a whole lot and prevent rusting from residual water.

Would someone comment on the difference between the "fluidized steel" and "Krupp steel" barrels used in the old Sterlingworths? And, how do these compare to the "Damascus steel" barrels that we are always warned about?

jmc - I just fitted new butt plate and grip cap to an old Sterlingworth and like you, the buttplate was just a tad too small, I managed a good fit though since the stock was scratched and dented so I just put the butt plate on and sanded the stock down that way to a fliush fit with 120 grit paper. Thanks for these helpful comments Mike and Silvers. Further disassembly sounds like a nightmare and glad I avoided it. LOL - just shows it pays to follow your instincts and wait for expert advice instead of plunging blindly ahead.

Nice post Mike! Got a couple questions on it: (1) you say "For a complete teardown, the forward screw and hammer axle would be removed later", any tricks here and could you elaborate on this if there is? And (2) what is the function of the auto safety pin that you say you prefer to remove?...
