Fox Collectors

Two birds taken late yesterday and this morning out near the cabin. The Sterlingworth is a 28-inch 20 bore made in 1914, restocked and redone to straight grip with a thick wrist and long tang trigger guard. Chokes were opened to 15 and 20 points, about Mod and Improved-Mod. I bought her already done up and the seller didn't know who did the work. I had a recent question why I don't post pics of the dogs; that's because I mainly do walk up hunting for birds and have done that since I was a kid. Nevertheless I do like and appreciate dogs of all breeds and have a long time love for trailing scent hounds as in Redticks, Blueticks, Walkers, Plotts, etc

It's great you can walk up birds with such success.
When I was a teen that was the only way we hunted grouse, didn't have a bird dog.

What is the circumference of the wrist on your Sterly?

Thanks all. Roger, the circumference is a tad over 4-3/4". The long tang trigger guard was made by precision welding an extension onto the original guard. Interesting, the stocking man fitted the buttplate to a slightly concave butt as in early Fox factory practice.

A comment on the pics; I take them with my cell and send to my email addy after getting back to civilization. Then save on the computer, resize/crop if necessary and post from the computer. That keeps the pics from appearing at 90 or 180-degrees degrees from true orientation as we often see posted on other collector sites.

Great post, Frank - I too bought a completely redone 28" AE 20 bore years ago, but with a pistol grip. The gun had a destroyed Kautzky single trigger but the restoration was very well done; great colors, nice wood and primo barrel blue. I was offered it at a very low price so I bought it and had double triggers installed. A very nice gun to shoot and good looking to boot. I really like the straight grip on your gun - sleek but beefy! Kevin

Some real nice work on that restock. That type of upgraded black walnut seems to suit a Sterly just fine.
