A few birds and a Fox

For my first post here I thought I’d drop a photo of a woodcock limit and my 20 ga. Sterlingworth. Shot in tidewater Virginia over my English setter, Gunner. We were actually hunting quail that day but the woodcock were so thick I couldn’t get him out of the pines and into the fields. I took those birds in 20 minutes and it took 45 minutes to finally get the dog back to the truck. He just couldn’t understand why anyone would want to leave such a place.

I hunt with Mike a good bit. Gunner is the real deal. Berg Brothers setter. Mike has been carrying that Sterly for quite a while. He shoots it well.

Some of you might know this guy. There’s probably a Fox leaning against that tree.
The two furry things are Sophie and Gunner.

Another fine picture! 30 years ago I spent a lot of time hunting woodcock with my 20 ga. Citori. Big fun! Unfortunately they are now few and far between in my neighborhood.

Hey Jeff. I have hunted about 1 1/2 hours north of you for 20 some years. Last year we put up 99 WC in 6 days of hunting.
And 2 of those days were lost to rain. You should still be able to find a few.

Wow! That's an impressive tail gate. Most of my woodcock adventures have been in the very northern edge of Newago county, and then in Lake county, west of Baldwin.

I was with Mike that week. The dogs did well. We shot the Foxes well. It was a good day as they say.

Both dogs did very well on that trip. Tom’s dog, Sophie, is the old hand. Sophie knows her stuff. Gunner is coming along.

That is a great picture of the 2 dogs on point. Are they pointing a Woodcock out in that field?

I think that a quail point as I recall. They did however point Woodcock that day as well (I think) but they were out of season.
