Fox Collectors

I'm having Doug Mann re-stock my XE-12ga. He was kind enough to send me a teaser picture of the forearm after he finished checkering it. I thought some of you might like seeing it.

Paul, just to let you know, I'm just about finished with the checkering on the buttstock. I'll send you a coule of pictures before I take it apart for color case.

BTW, don't let Glenn talk you into anything like selling your gun! I already have two Foxes to do for him AFTER I finish his international rifle. The man has to many toys.

Believe me Glenn when I say I'm more than thrilled with Doug's work. The hard part is just seeing pictures and not being able to fondle the real thing.

I hear ya Doug but Glenn could possibly dangel a carrot in front of me that would be hard to resist, such as a small bore graded Fox project gun that had his or your handy work with the file and chisel already applied to the action.

The key word here is "AFTER". As long as he never finishes the international rifle he won't ever have to do the Foxes. Well, at least I won't have to worry about stock blanks being green.

As for his ill informed position on my personal toy volume, the fact of the matter is that if I indeed did have enough toys I would not be waiting for him to make me more. Also, under the heading of pot and kettle coloring, may I point out that he fails to mention the Winder Musket action I am currently turning into a .22 target rifle on his behalf. Seems a fairly unnecessary appendage for a shotgun sort of guy.

Paul, I just took this photo this morning (it was cold outside so only one picture) for you to see. The other side is finished BTW so it will be taken apart today or tomorrow for color case work. The checkering pattern matches the style of the forend and I used pictures of an original XE for further reference. While the metal is off for a new suite of clothes I'll cover the pad in leather.



As for coloring pots...... Mr Fewless (who shoots master class in BPCRS) has taken a liking to shotguns recently. His recent emergence from the dark side ( black powder does create a lot of smoke) shows that he is not without redeeming qualities. He particulary likes Foxes and also those shotguns with the safety on the side of all things.

He does slip back into his old habits however so here is a picture of his international rules rifle in a not complete state. The wood is a wonderful piece of black walnut supplied by his adopted mom amd dad as a graduation present when he became a reglular member of the ACGG. Please note the blue painter tape on the front on the front, also known as "Doug Mann rust blue". I find it to be very handsome although it does tend to peel at times.



I forgot to add that the reason Glenn is building a .22 target rifle based on a Winder low wall is so I can reduce the population of Meerkats in my back yard. The little buggers are everywhere!

Now that you've teased me with one side I really need to see the other side!

Ralph, the forend is 10 1/4" long with the metal installed. It is a direct copy of the original forend that was on the gun. The ebony forend tip that Ken referred to is original to Paul's gun and so I removed it and installed it in this forend.

The butt stock on this gun was a very plain replacement (probably Fajen) so Paul decided on the restock. IMHO he made a very wise decision.
