I don't post a whole lot but I agree this has been unusually slow.

Toolman thinks it's a little quite around here. Hence, my recent thread, "When boredom sets in....". Well, I don't have much to report to the Fox Nation. Last week I stopped by a local gun shop and they had a 20 ga. Utica Sterlingworth on the rack. A little rough, but a good solid gun. This weekend I stopped by another gun shop and they had a very nice 20 ga. Sterlingworth for sale, but it was priced fairly high, and I really don't need it. I'm just saying it's slim pickings here in Michigan. On a more positive note, a friend of mine that lives a half mile away saw a bobwhite in his back yard. I've only see one in my life, and that was 40 years ago. Maybe I should start shopping for a quail gun.

The only local shop around me that had any Foxes closed its doors. Cant remember the last time I saw a Fox in any of the gun shops I stop at on occasion.

There seemed to be a real lack of Foxes in the winter and spring auctions. I was speaking to a friend who went to Tulsa and he reported no Fox sightings to get e,xcited about. It seems they come to the market in bunchs. Half the fun is the hunt,they appear when you least expect it.

Toolman, that's right, but since I've never hunted quail I assumed I should use something smaller. Do people hunt quail with a 12 ga.?

Only the ones providing lunch. Those posing for the Dunn's catalog shoulder nothing but 28's.
That "C" would be hell on quail. Cyl/LM with 3/4 oz. loads......just warm the biscuits and gravy!!

ALL RIGHTY THEN!!! - Here's a couple of tidbits that should spike interest and controversy during the recent doldrums:
Item 1: In the "When boredom sets in" thread...there is no documented evidence that Horace and Molly Merritt (the cook at Beaver Dam) were ever married; hence, 'dem Mallets' weren't prepared by Ho'ace's 'wife';
Item 2: The NRA Museum In Fairfax, VA is undergoing various transitions in its gun displays; many items were sent out to the Bass Pro Shop Grand Opening in Springfield MO a few months ago, resulting in many guns that were in storage now being brought out for display, many never before seen. My home is literally within walking distance of the Museum, so I'm usually in there at least every two weeks, so I notice changes. Be advised that there are now not one, but TWO Fox cutaway guns on display; a 12 ga. A Grade SN 173, and a 12 gauge Sterly, SN 30076. Researcher informs me that the 30076 gun cards as an XE, so the SN notation is probably a labeling error. The crude tags attached to each of these guns says, "Owner states that he purchased the gun as part of the contents of the R&D room during 1980 pre-bankrupty sale of Savage Arms."
PS - In all the years I have been going to the NRA Museum, I have never seen an original Fox gun displayed there, only CSMC guns. Enjoy!
