If anyone has one in their safe, I'd love to see a picture of the forearm checkering. Needle in a haystack I'm guessing, but worth a shot.

Either early or late style engraving. Thanks much.

Tom, this is off my 16 gauge B, if that helps.

vaturkey,

The fore end on my 20 gauge early B, sn 200399, looks just like Romac's.

If you'd like a picture, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send it to you.

If others would like to see it posted here, Reply to this note and I'll put it on via PhotoBucket, etc.

Jolly Bill,

Email address via PM inbound.

Thanks for posting the pic Roger. What is the length in inches of that forearm? Also, was that gun up in Ironmenworks at some point? Looks familiar.

Wonder if they even made any of these with the snap on forearm with ejectors?

Tom, to the best of my knowledge, that gun never was at Iromemnworks.

I procured it through an FFL that acted as an intermediary for a private seller who was the grandson of the original owner.

I'm at work, but I'll try to measure the fore end tonight for you.

I've recorded AEs, BEs, CEs, XEs and two DEs with the F.T. Russell Patent snap-on/-off forearms.

I owned a second-gen BE 16 3004xx 26-incher with the snap-on forend but sold it several years ago to another member who is often on line. Maybe he'll post a pic for you. The ejector anchor had a little different/cool engraving than seen on SW Ejector and early AE guns. Then I evaluated another second-gen BE 16 almost a mate to that gun except 28-incher at the Southern 2 years ago and made a substantial offer which the owner declined. I just saw him again last week at a local club here in PA but forgot to ask if he wanted to move it now. They are out there.

Thanks Frank,

Hopefully some folks who the early ejector snap on BE will post a nice closeup. I've seen AE early small bores and have seen an XE (owned by Bobby), but have never seen a early BE anchor. Regards, Tom

Thanks much for sure. Every time I see a second generation B grade I like it even more.

I agree with Tom. I love the deep engraving on the 2nd generation A grades, and the B is the same, but with more. The members of this fine organization have some beautiful guns.

There seems to be more variation in B-/BE-Grade checkering then most other grades. See the very cool grip checkering on the little 1913-vintage BE-Grade 20-gauge Tom Kidd showed on page 83 of The Double Gun Journal, Volume One, Issue 2.

Dave I have noticed that there are several different grip checkering patterns. My 20 gauge does not have the little point or peak below flute in comb nose. Bobby

Tom,

The wood on my B fore end measures 7.5 inched on the button.
