Slow rust blue question

Members,
I am beginning the process of restoring a 1927 Sterlingworth. This is my first Fox and my first restoration project. The plan is to do a light restoration on the wood, because I love the fact that the prior owner was a southpaw like me, and the wood shows minor wear in left-hand places. I bought and built stuff to do a slow rust blue on the barrels, and have questions. Should I remove the forend lug and the extractors prior to starting the job? If not, should they be protected in some manner? If so, what would be the steps in removing both?
I may try using the Galazan case hardening enhancement kit on the receiver. If anyone has experience with this product, I'd love any feedback.
Thanks for any input.
