Grouse hunters at the Northern SxS & Expo

For some time now I've been thinking about getting a small Foxer group together to do some grouse hunting in the PA mountains out near the cabin. And it occurs to me that those who are enthusiastic enough to drive to the Northern at Rock Mountain, are also close enough to consider such a hunt. This area is within an hour northwest of Rock Mountain. Maybe something like 2-3 days in early November. I've hunted the mountains for a long time now and know many good areas and coverts. The cost of a non resident license is nominal. If interested in talking about this, hunt me down while at the Northern. Mountain Mike has already told me "he's in" with his setters. 8)

Just one thing from someone who's been on hunting trips with gents who haven't worked out, this isn't a blanket invitation. We need to talk first. frank

Update: I didn't expect such quick response after passing the word, and so far I've had 7 gents contact me. 4 of them will see me at the Northern. I really don't want the hunting party to be more than 4 or 5 to include Mike and me. Thus this posting is now on hold pending discussions with the gents while at the Northern next month.

Frank, that would be great if their are any "spaces" left. I just picked up a new little grouse gun this afternoon that will bring a smile to your face. A 20ga A grade Fox with 26" barrels that weighs about 5 lbs 12 oz. Really didn't need or want another gun but 20 ga A grades are getting hard to find, and my 16 A grade was lonely. I have 2 veteran grouse dogs(setters) and young Fancy will have her first season and is holding her training pigeons nicely. Whoops, just went back and read your last post--looks like you full up already, I know you guys will have a great time. When I retire, I am going to get a Pa license, as I am only 15 min from the Pa border

Harold, I'll keep you in mind if a space comes up. Another gent asked for one too. Hey that new A Grade 20-bore sounds like it was made for woodcock and ruffies! :)

UPDATE 9/6/15 - 4 of us talked while at the Northern and plans are underway for a group hunt in November.

Frank - that was a very generous offer. Best of luck to the chosen few!

If any of you grouse hunters are not able to make this hunt with Frank. The ruffed grouse Society holds a Great hunt in the Wilds of PA each year. They can accommodate New hunters or even hunters who are getting long in the tooth. If you hunt Ruffs you should be a member of this organization.
