Fox Collectors

Anyone on here turkey hunt with a Fox? Just curious as to what gun/load you might shoot. I have already patterned my L.C. so I'm going to take it out in the beginning but would love to take my 12 gauge A later this season.

I use RST 1 1/4 oz Pigeon loads size 6 in my custom fox based on a 1913 Sterlingworth Ejector gun. Chokes on the left barrel are the original full, Right barrel was opened up to IC.

Very nice! to both the bird and the gun. I wish Federal could make a lower pressure load using their flight control wads. I patterned some of these in a fixed full barrel 870 wingmaster I have and got great results but I would be afraid to shoot them in an old double due to the recoil and payload.

Altamaha River swamp with my Philly Arms Fox 12 gauge. I had RST no. 5's. If I get to shoot, I will let you know how they do.

Well, I saw two wood ducks and a swallow tail kite. Heard lots of other sounds. No snakes or gators, this trip at least.

I need to get a choke gauge, but that Philly Arms Fox did great on the patterning board and even outperformed a Lefever 12 gauge that has about .040 constriction. Ansley knew barrels, that is for sure

Not much prettier than the swamp in my opinion, nice pics. I have already tagged out this season but I plan on definitely having a load figured out for next season

Just bumping this to the top as the time is near when the shrill gobbles begin to keep me awake for the 45 day stint. I will most certainly carrying the Fox this year..

What might be everyone's favorite commerical shell flavor for the Fox in 2-3/4 concerning Toms. I am leaning a heavy 6 load.

Back in the day when I did a lot of wild turkey hunting in Oregon, Winchester made 2 3/4" copper plated "baby magnums". I would use a #6 in the right barrel and a #4 in the left barrel. With 2 triggers I had instant choice for the condition at hand. I have made head shots out to 60 yards with the #4's. Some day I will tell the story of the "Terrorist Tom" I killed. This Tom killed a Jake coming to my call! It took me a few days, but I finnally killed him.

They are gobbling like mad on our hills. Looking forward to laying down a longbeard that first Tuesday in May. Of course the Spring Southern coincides with our Saturday opener this year. I'm usually tagged out with 2 gobblers by early in the second week. If not, after the 2nd Saturday we shift to all day season. I like that. Rather hunt in the afternoon/evening than have to get up at 4:00 AM for the morning sit. I have 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz of #5 Winchester Supreme Turkey loads ready to make them assume room temp.

I think one of the more interesting shells out there right now is the Winchester Long Beard in 2 3/4" with 1 1/4 oz of number 5 shot. One of the nice things about the long beard shell is they use a rolled crimp. Be interesting to see what the pressures are (which no body will probably ever know) because the load only cooks out at 1050 FPS. I think that would an interesting load to try out of full choked Fox.

That should be a very tight patterning load. Somebody at Winchester remembered that lower velocities lend to tight patterns, it seems. I may try some of them in my Super.

I can not find the 1050 fps 2 3/4" Winchester longbeard anywhere, even on the Winchester ammo web-site. Do you have a Mfg # for them?
