Looking at a Fox A 12 Ga and discovered that the water table had two cracks or fractures. All I can think of is someone used some very hot loads.
can water tables be welded or is best course to walk away?

If it were me I'd walk away.

Scaupman, your picture looks exactly the same as this Fox A presents! You would think that this type of fracture would show up more frequently if, in fact, it is due to mis opening and not hot loads.

Frank, I've seen cracks at the crossbolt area of Fox single traps also. What is your comment on that phenomenon?

Thank you Dewey, the sectioned photos certainly demonstrate how it happens. It's interesting that the gun I was looking at to purchase is not a trap gun but a late model Phil.Fox A. Exactly the same crack/fracture lines as the SBT but in a double. Bad habits are bad habits whether in the field or on the trap range.
Again, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and expertise.

Dewey, Just to clarify. I was referring to Scaupmans SBT as having the same cracks. I know your cut away is a Sterlingworth.

You are never too old to learn: I saw the "A" grade referred to, and was surprised & dismayed. It was a beautiful gun, but had those serious cracks.
I was a bit surprised a dealer didn't see or mention the cracks.
My first guess would have been magnum loads, but the logic of slamming the gun open, together with the pictures of how thin a Fox is there was an education for this old guy.
