Can anyone tell me the procedure on removing the hammers on my Sterlingworth 12 gauge? Is a special tool needed to do it? Any help would be appreciated.

Go back to the home page and there is a drop down under mechanisms/identifications on how to take apart etc. That should take care of it for you.

Unfortunately the instructions listed do not tell you how to completely disassemble the entire action. They only tell you what needs to be done to remove the stock.

Sorry, thought they did. Hopefully someone else can chime in and provide some details.

I've also only gone as far as the instructions showed when I removed my stock for refinishing and a new recoil pad. It seems the hammers, even at rest and de-cocked, are under stiff spring tension. Maybe some more googling to see if there is more out there.

"Place the correct hammer in position and using your dowel or Delrin rod give a good solid rap, with a fairly heavy hammer, on the dowel on the back of the hammer where the cocking extension is. A slight angle of the dowel will move the hammer forward and down at the same time and the hammer will drop into place".

A alternative to using a dowel to compress the hammer spring while aligning the hammers is to carefully use a pair of channel locks to compress the hammer spring while aligning the hammer pins.
