Fox Collectors

Dave, I thought you would be interested in hearing that the South Ridge Flyers today held their holiday pigeon shoot, without your participation. The first piece of news is that one of the members asked where my red and black Utica Duxback wool coat had disappeared to. I replied that it was hanging in my truck, in case the weather took a bad turn. Oddly, I have not worn that coat to a pigeon shoot since we appeared in the famous picture of Ed Muderlak, Kevin McCormack, Dave Noreen, and Bill Murphy a few or more years ago. Somehow, this club member remembered that day, a cold one, when we posed for that picture on "Pigeon Hill". Today was Model 21 day, where a member donated a generous prize for the shooter who posted the highest score with a Model 21. There was an absolute flock of vent rib Model 21 Trap Guns in attendance and a good time was had by all. Bill Murphy

Thanks, Dave, for the rerun of a great picture. The birds were pretty tough yesterday. The high score was 17X25, about the lowest winning score we have ever had. We had a good turnout with two lady shooters, one an International flyer champion in past years, one the daughter in law of a famous Middleburg gun dealer. I have outgrown the tight patterns of my Parker PHE Trap, so shot a Beretta 682 with way looser chokes. It is my first venture into the ring with a gun other than a side by side. The guns were largely Model 21s, one Parker, one British hammer gun, and maybe one or two each Perazzi, Krieghoff, and Beretta. The lady champion shot what could have been a Fabbri, her favorite, or an SO Beretta. Sorry, not a Fox in sight.

The surviving shooters in that picture could make quite a display of Foxes. Mr. McCormack is a recent convert, but is a quick study. We had a show and tell at a Fox collecting friend's house at lunch last week and Kevin surprised us with quite a spread. My spread was only the food.

I think Kevin decided those Parker's were just way too complicated and he likes the simplicity and durability of the Foxes. Plus they are lighter gauge for gauge.

Tom, do you want me to tell you Kevin's history with various collecting venues? I think the Fox interest may keep him busy for a while.
