Your editor had an opportunity to stop by the 2014 California Side-by-Side Championships & Exhibition at Sun Mountain Gun Club, near Coarsegold, California, around lunch time today. Looks like a great event, great venue and lets hope it continues to grow. Here are a few pictures of the Exhibition --

It appeared most folks were out shooting, but the first person I ran into was our old friend Jim Thynne, who was one of the judges for the exhibits. There was a nice exhibit of J.P. CIabrough guns by the author of the book, a wonderful display of J. D. Dougall Lockfast guns, a nice spread of L.C. Smiths, a display of single barrel traps which included a K-Grade, a James Purdey & Sons display and a smattering of Fox doubles. I spoke briefly with a shooter heading out with his 1913-vintage A-Grade 16-gauge with straight grip!! I don't know who had the Parker display.

About 44 miles east of Merced, on state highway 41 running north from Fresno to Yosemite National Park. Sun Mountain Gun Club is about eight miles south of Coarsegold. Turn east onto Road 417 at the Chevron Station and drive up past the Casino and on to the end of the road where th gun club is the only open gate.
