This won't make you feel any better , but about a month ago I picked up a very decent Philly Sterlingworth 20 gauge with 26" IC/M for $1000 !

Other then the hard rubber buttplate being a little slick I shot two rounds of lowgun skeet with it a couple days after I got it and broke 47 out of 50 !

You know truth be told I've gotten two 20 gauge Philly Sterlingworths at public auction in the last 12 months and only have $2100 in the pair .

The first was a 28" M/F that belonged to 1930's actor Robert Montgomery the father of "Bewitched" Elizabeth Montgomery . Not that mean much to me as far as the value of the gun is concerned but that was the way the gun was listed .

I got a Philly 12 gauge Sterlingworth in very decent shape thats 26" IC/M at public auction this past summer for less then $500 !

My only 16 Fox is a 1930 Utica A Grade so I need to come up with a decent Philly Sterlingworth 16 gauge 26" IC/M .

This might make you feel a little better . I let a very very nice Parker EH 10 gauge damascus gun slip thru my fingers this past summer also . The safety was stuck in the on position so I couldn't see if the hammers worked etc . After letting it go my gunsmith buddy told me he was about 95% sure he could have fixed that in 15 minutes !
I could have gotten that one for about $500 I think .

I attended this auction from about 11:30 am until about 4:30 pm. There was a lot of junk in this auction that we all had to wait for in between the good stuff. The C grade 12 gauge A H Fox that was sold to a bidder on the internet for about $1825.00 plus the buyers fee, plus the tax, plus the NICS, plus the shipping was probably not a bad price IF, big big IF, the buyer knew that the butt stock had been broken and badly repaired and if the buyer knew that this A H Fox left the factory with two sets of barrels and two forearms but now had only the number one barrels and only the number two forearm. This gun could be a very very nice shooter again without a lot of trouble.

The bargain of the day was a very very nice old style A grade that hammered down for about $650.00 to a bidder on the floor. I was the only one bidding against him. I did not go higher because I was saving my money for a FOX coming up later in the auction. The only other FOX bidder/buyer on the floor in the auction house was Tim, sitting next to me, was saving his money for the newer style A grade coming up later so he did not bid either. We were both shocked when nobody on the internet bid this old style A grade higher. The guy on the floor with us stole this FOX ! I could not believe it. Tim, the guy next to me could not believe it.

Tim did get the newer style A grade A H Fox 12 gauge later on in the auction and I got the old style A grade A H Fox with the four digit serial number.

There was a very nice SW 12 gauge with 28 inch barrels and the newer fat forearm that went for a very fair price, make that low price, in this auction.

I did not inspect the 16 gauge FOX that was sold in this auction. There were several other old style A H Foxes in this auction that were beat to pieces. They could be saved but it would take a lot of work. One of the old Foxes was basically missing its butt stock.

On a side note, Winchester Model 12s were going cheap cheap cheap. I was about ready to cry but then I decided to bid.

If you would like to know more about this auction call me on the phone. There are things that I cannot put in writing about this auction.

My cell phone number is 703-855-1110.

Good Shooting To You All, Jent
