I recently purchased a Savage Fox 12ga but I do not recognize the engraving pattern. It has a snipe on one side and the other side has a quail on the receiver. the water table is stamped with a "B" so it is a B grade..? The serial number is 17,788. I'd post a pic but can't figure out how. Any info would be appreciated.

Welcome Robert,
Certainly sounds like a "B' grade based on your description. That ser. # is early Philly era, probably in the 1910-1912 range. A letter or production card look-up (one FREE with your $30 annual membership) should solve some of the mystery. The "B" grade was for the most part discontinued from the line after 1918. I'm guessing you are reading Savage Arms somewhere on the barrels?? She could have been sent back to Savage for re-barreling or repair in which case Savage would have re-proofed to 2 3/4" chambers. That would be stamped on the left side of barrels toward the chamber end. Do the serial #'s on the barrel flats match those on the frame?? The serial numbers match but that would make sense that it was sent back to the now Savage arms company. The gun has the engraving pattern of an early Phila B grade gun. The gun was probably restocked I'm assuming at the same time because the stock is not that of an early Phila gun. The gun is like new condition except the case colors are gone and a shallow scratch on the stock.
Now for the next question, what do you think the value of this gun is?
