Somewhat amazed by some of the pictures Marshfellow posted some time ago of the DE 12 gauge with the early style engraving. Was therefore wondering what the early D grade 20 and or 16 gauge guns looked like with the very early snap on forearms. Based on Marshfellow's recommendations I purchased the Spring 1992 Doublegun Journal and read Mr. Kidds fine article on the gun itself. Couple of questions left unanswered in my mind what was the checkering pattern and forend tip treatment used on those earlier snap on style non-ejector forearms. Pictures within the article unfortunately don't supply that information. Lastly, comparing the engraving of 200108 with Marshfellow's early D style engraving seem to show some differences in the scroll pattern on the frame between the second frame cross pin and the end of the wedge sculpting. Assuming that is just the difference in engraving style between small frame (20 and 16) and the larger 12 gauge frames.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone can describe (or provide a picture) of an early D (non-ejector) snap-on/off forearm in the small gauge. BTW, DE 200108 is an amazing looking gun. The fleur-de-lis checkering pattern on the buttstock in my mind is nicer then the standard D grade checkering pattern I'm used to seeing on the later style guns.

BTW, I own 16 gauge 300033 an A grade with the snap on type forearm, but was wondering about the forearm on the higher grade very early small gauges. Thanks for whatever information can be provided.

Unless I'm really getting funny (funnier) I dont remember having a part in 200108. I believe I posted pics awhile back on an early DE but that was a 12ga gun.

You recommended I purchase the DGJ with the article on DE 200108. Your pictures of the early 12 gauge DE was what made me wonder what an early small gauge D grade would look like. Guess I wasn't very clear.

I wish I had an early D grade 20 to show, the closest I can come up with is an early non ejector B 20. As you might expect, the fore end looks just like the fore end of a non ejector Sterlingworth. And as I'm sure you know, those early small bore 16's and 20's with ejectors have the dime sized keeper holding the ejector mechanics visible on the outside of the fore end wood.

There was also a Tom Kidd article later when 200000 came to light. See The Double Gun Journal, Volume Six, Issue 1, page 39. Serial number 200108 has a checkering pattern with fleur de lis as shown on the D-/DE-Grade in the grey 1913 "Fox Gets the Game" catalogue. Here is a picture of the forearm on CE-Grade 200109 --

Finally found Volume Six Issue 1 and have it inbound. Is it possible to scan a picture of the fleur de lis your referring to from the 1913 catalogue and post it. That catalgue is certainly more difficult to locate then the DGJ.

I own 200124 and it has this style forearm checkering...

I recently sold 200380- consecutive serial? Its an A grade with the snap-on forearm, non ejector, and Krupp Barrels.

Sorry I can't help with an early small bore DE checkering pattern...
