Chukar hunt with a Fox BE 16

My friend and long time Fox comrade Jim Cloninger asked me to post these photos for him. Hunt was for chukars back in April with his "Mandy" and an early 16 gauge Fox BE. The Fox has second gen Gough engraving, Krupp barrels and the snap on forend, a very nice combo! Jim took the photos with a 35mm camera and I digitized them with my camera, which accounts for some loss of clarity. Anyway, you'll get the picture so to speak. Jim told me both the dog and the Fox performed very well.

Sweet looking piece Jim. 28" tubes? Chokes? What year gun is it? Loads used on the birds?

Hi Mike, 1914 Fox BE 16 gauge, 26" barrels choked cyl and mod.
I used RST 7 1/2's.

Very nice Jim. I love those small bores with second generation engraving, Krupp barrels, and the snap-on forearm. I have a little A grade 20 that I've used exclusively for better than 15 years and it's configured the same way. Thanks for sharing.

A real beauty and the perfect carry gun. I've got to believe that a smallbore BE with 2nd generation engraving and a snap-on forend is an extremely rare bird. Wonder how many are out there like it

That gun is class Jim. I think the second gen B grades are my favorites. 'this week" lol nice gun Jim..

Dave, is that a photo of the Snake? I would not be able to hunt that kind of country anymore!

No. That is the Palouse River a bit before it empties into the Snake. The Snake is a lot larger, of course mainly backed up behind dams. I couldn't find a picture of the Snake River in my photo files. Hunting Chucker in the Snake River breaks is a game for the young and physically fit!! Of course, there was that great American Sportsman episode of Bing and Phil hunting Chuckers in the Snake River breaks!! I'm afraid the 34 years I spent sitting at a desk didn't help. I'd be sweating worse than Phil Harris!!

Hunting chukar with a BE 16 caught my eye. Have the same gun. Researcher's photo is a bit extreme but the country is very rough. If you want to cast and blast on the Snake, here is a website to check kingfisherrivertrips.com. Bruce King is a friend with one of my GWPs and now that I'm retired, I will plan this for the fall but in reality will probably leave the BE at home and take my AE 16.
