There's a really neat LOM case for sale on ebay; at $200+ it's already too rich for my blood, plus I decided long ago that LOM's are too much trouble! But they are way cool, and this one would go well with a vintage double of some sort:

I think that's probably a good thing. Luckily I didn't catch on to most of them. Neat case, though; I like the accessory pouch.

I was looking forward to some levity. Probably 95% of the posts on our site are done by a handfull of gents. Here at least was a subject, albeit a tangent, that the majority could loosen up with. Nothing like the stuff we're all exposed to by today's media. Silvers

Hey, no problem. I might have been into leather in my younger days .

I hunt within 25 miles or so from home and i just lay the pretty Foxes on passenger seat in the old Bronco, barrels on floorboard and catch a quick glance now and then!Might be more dangerous than using cell phone! Bobby

I have seen enough pictures of you guys that thinking of anyone of you and a thong at the same time is just too ugly. Kind of like a bowl of ice cream topped off with dog poop. Please don't bring it up again.

I have a couple old LOM cases and enjoy looking at them, researching them, bidding on them and am always interested in the many different styles of them. Old aged leather accessories are about as cool as the guns themself in my opinion. However, I don't use the ones that I have. I'm curious how they used them back in the day. Did they not have long cases then? I would assume they did. As much as I like the style of them, it just seems like its too much trouble to break a gun down and reassemble it each time you move to a different hunting spot. Its so much easier to slide a gun into a long case and get going. If I were to break my gun down and reassemble each time me and my buds who are not double totters moved to a new hunting spot, they would never let me hear the end of it and I'm sure a part would be dropped in the mud when you are in a hurry. I'm just wondering if they were more of a status symbol like some of the ladies high dollar purses of today and not for function. I can see them being better for long trips and storing better in some places and maybe the harder side would offer better protection. My best guess is they were driving the old rough riding model T cars and trucks and they only used them for the long haul and didn't care about protection during the short trips. I'm very protective of my guns and when me and 3 or 4 others climb into a quad cab, we all slide the guns in a case to keep them from rubbing against each other.
So, if there is any old timers out there or anyone for that matter that can fill me in on the use of the LOM case or if they were more of a status symbol, I would like to know. Its just one of those things that I can't figure out.

Tom.....I can't consider myself an "oldtimer", nor have I actually used one, but I have so often wondered the same thing you have. I too enjoy looking at them, and I own several, all of which are in serviceable condition. The fact remains, I just can't ever see one in my truck come time to start north after Ole Ruff. They're too heavy and bulky. I do use a Boyt break-down case for travel/transport, but I also carry a single case to use throughout the hunting day. Perhaps the old timers did require more protection back in the day. It's reasonable to assume, I think.
