I know the forend isn't original but how common is the "Made for Savage Arms" inscription?

Also reciever stamped Sterlingworth not Fox Sterlingworth. Transition gun?

Interesting....second one of these markings that I've heard about in a week. I've never seen one in the flesh.

I was thinking about this last night and perhaps my personal conclusion is rather obvious but I had never given it any thought. I suppose this marking was used right after the ink was dry on the purchase of AH Fox by Savage Arms and the gun was indeed made at the Fox facility in Phili, for Savage Arms in Utica before the move to Utica. The gun definately has Phili traits, but in my experience there are alot of guns that were put together in Utica with "Phili" parts so there really is no line of demarcation.

My understanding is that the purchase was in 1929....I do not know exactly what weeks or month the physical move to Utica was completed. I recall that W.Gough was first listed here in the Utica City Directory in 1930.

So anyway, as I mentioned, I dont recall seeing one of these guns in person in 30+ years of collecting these things so I dont think that they were marked this way for very long...perhaps just weeks or months.

This was mentioned in McIntosh's book on page 280. I have also seen a 16 Sterlingworth with this stamping. I have not seen it on a grade gun but there must be one somewhere.
