Fox Collectors

The recent DGJ and Shooting Sportsman both have articles on HE foxes. Reseacher got a nice nod in the DGJ article. It has been a while since there has been much published about Foxes. Hopefully they will get more people interested in these fine firearms-John

For a newbie, does anyone have a listing of DGJ (or other) articles which are good references for Fox guns? I'm just beginning my research. My Fox Sterlingworth is from my great-grandfather, SN 538XX, which I believe places it in its first year of production, 1910. By the way, while I'm at it, can anyone tell me what the correct recoil pad would have been for this gun? It lacks one right now....

My suggestion would be that you buy a copy of the DGJ reference books as they will list all journals with articles on the Fox gun. If i was home, I would post the info for ya but the books are worth owning. So is a complete set of the DGJs.

As for but pad... it would not have a pad, it would have had a plate... you can order replacement plates from CSMC amongst others. You might need a pad to give you a LOP that is usable depending on your height and fit and most would recommend a Silvers or Silvers reproduction pad for this era.

A Silvers Pad was offered as a $5 option during the first years of the Sterlingworth's availability. The Jostam Anti-Flinch pad, most common on lower graded Fox guns didn't come along until just before WW-I.
