Hey folks, I need some advice here. I'm a new Fox owner...I've shot a Sterlingworth for a good bit this fall and winter. Alas, pheasant season will soon close, and the gun will go into the safe for some time.
After every hunt, I pull off the forearm and remove the barrels from the stock/receiver, and wipe, swab, and polish everything really well. Should I be doing anything different at the end of the season, ie taking apart the stock/receiver piece?

In addition to the external cleaning I suggest you scrub the bores with bore solvent on a stiff brass brush, use several wipers to clean the solvent, and LIGHTLY oil with any good gun oil. Also, clean and then put some gun grease (tiny amount) on the camming surface on the barrel extension, on the hinge pin bearing surface, and on the front of the action "knuckle". There's no need to take the receiver apart unless it got a good soaking or was dunked in a swamp. Store your Fox in the safe upside down, resting on the muzzles.

P.S. - why put the gun away till next hunting season? Clays are always in season and it's cool to see eyebrows raised when you show up on a field or a course with an old Fox. Silvers

Thanks for the advice on the cleaning. I didn't want to take apart the "guts" of the gun if I didn't have to.
As for why would I put the Sterlingworth away...very simple. I'm not interested unless it has feathers. Period.
