Fox Collectors

Just want to know what the value would be for a Fox sterlingworth 20 gauge with ejectors in almost 100% condition,the only thing is that it has a wooden extension added.thanks

A 20-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth Ejector in 100% original condition could easily have a market price of five grand. A gun with a butt extension is not in 100% original condition. There are a lot of nits to pick between a 98% condition gun and a 99% condition gun, and even more to 100%.

If the butt extension is the only problem, and as Researcher said it is a fairly major problem, I would guess that your gun would be worth between $1,500 and $2,500.

The butt is the only problem,what happens if i replace the stock would that increase the value?The gun is in unfired condition with 100% case color and bluing,the man who had the gun purchased the gun from Abercrombie&Fitch in 1937, and had put a wood extension on it and never fired it,also any ideas as to where i could optain a butt stock for the gun?

A new stock would have to be made to fit this gun and would not match the forend anyway. Your gun would not gain any value from this, as a new stock is expensive.
My question is; How is the extension attached now? Can you post a picture?
You may be able to remove the extension and find a buttplate for it. That would be the way to go depending on how the extension was attached. Keep in mind that your gun could never be rated at 100% Original because of the repairs no matter how well they are done. I have been collecting for over 30 years and have only seen one Fox that I would consider 100% ORIGINAL condition.

well said.....I've got a few years on me ,and my collecting, and I dont think Ive seen/owned one over 98+% including the unused ones in their original boxes. 70-100 years has to do something to something. ............but then again, it's all a matter of opinion....y'kno??...the best ever found???.

I agree to me 98% means someone opened the box... but it all opinion....

I would love to see pics of this gun... I have two sterlingworths that REAL nice (one with the box and packaging material) but they are both philly guns and I would like to see how the CC looks on a like new Savage made Fox. Thanks!

If the stock has not been cut from it's original length and only an extension has been added to increase the length removing the extension and replacing it with an original butt plate or Jostam Anti Flinch pad if it is a Deluxe will have little bearing on the value. I think Researcher is being a bit generous in his estimate but I think there are some on this board that would give your $3.5 to $4 K for the gun.

Headricks had that very high condition, but certainly not mint, 1919-vintage Sterlingworth Ejector Brush 20-gauge pictured on page 142 of the FBITW, and it sold for several thousand a decade or more ago. Took my breath away when it did!!

On a related subject how much do you think the 20 gauge Sterlingworth with the 32 inch barrels in Manhattan Kansas will bring?

What 20-ga. Sterlingworth w/32" bbls. in Manhattan, Kansas? Please provide a link, if available.

My ex next door neighbor accepted a position as Dean of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University in Manhattan. He tells me that among the KSU groundskeeper's equipment is a Sterlingworth 20 gauge with 32" barrels that he uses to dispatch pigeons from the bell tower of the student union building. Of course my neighbor and I have had our differences about gun control and blood sports and he may just be messing with me. He chuckled a lot about selling his property to a fellow with a fleet of dump trucks. Actually it is much worse than that.

When I saw the 32-inch 20-gauge S-worth in Manhatten, Kansas, it was at a little gunshop at the end of a strip mall. I seem to recall it being next to a fast food restaurant just beyond the end of the strip mall. Haven't been to Manhatten since the 2000 bird season, and I think it was years before that when I saw the gun.

Bamboozler the 20 gauge Sterlingworth in Manhattan KS is not for sale. If it were I would have owned it for a long time.
