I am still giddy about it. I found a plain AH Fox serial #69XXX made in 1913. The metal is very good even though the bluing and case coloring is mostly gone. It is mechanically sound and the wood has honest use. All serial numbers match. There is a crack in the wrist that needs repairing before it gets worse but for something almost 100 yr old, I would get a crack too!
I traded this for my near new Ruger 10-22, those can be found anywhere. I plan to repair and refinish the stock but not to the point where all honest wear has been removed. Old doubles deserve to keep their battle scars and not have the dignity of its life stripped away. I don't plan as yet to do anything with the metal except give it a good cleaning.
The U-shaped swirl above the pin in the wood is not a crack, the straight one longitudinally from the pin is a crack. That only goes along the surface, about a 16th of an inch into the wood. Its enough for me to not want to shoot until its repaired.
