Fox Collectors

Not sure if this forum is the right one to ask this question but since it is a repair I thought I would ask here. I am looking at a Fox grade A that has a repair to the stock and the forearm wood has been replaced the ad says every else is in good shape I’ve asked on another forum but thought I would ask here. I think the repair is substantial for shooting just takes away from the looks of the gun. I have a gunsmith that would be Willing to help me put a stock on it if it came to that but don’t want to over pay for it. it has 30 inch barrels and is a 12 gauge SN is 25520. What is something like this worth and what would it cost to get a new stock for it? Am I better off looking for a different one ? What is a reasonable price for one in decent shape? Thanks all

We would at least need some clear photos of the gun, the repair, the replaced forend, barrel length, gauge, and serial number to start with. What other forum did you post about this gun?

This early A-Grade 12-gauge, original butt plate to muzzle, from the years when the A-Grades were still stocked with European walnut, recently sold at auction for $1150.
Shooters and collectors are gah gah over the small bores and prices are out of sight, but lower grade 12-gauges are drug on the market. A proper restoration would cost far more than a 12-gauge A-Grade is worth. As I said over on Shotgunworld the parts of that gun are worth more than the gun as a whole.

just went back and added some and it was on a shotgun world forum the general thoughts over there are to find one in better shape. just thought i would ask here i had forgotten i had an account here and thought it would be a good place to ask. i dont necessarily mind a project that was how i bought my first Fox but i dont want to over pay or have too much in it once it is fixed either.

thank you for your help sir over there and here. where would you recommend finding a good grade A ? i am fairly new to collecting and have only bought from the few people i know personally that have guns and from Gun broker and a lot of stuff over there seems to sell for higher than its worth on average

Personally I wouldn’t consider that Fox except as a parts donor. I wouldn’t offer more than $100. for it. JMO of course. frank

Frank, I’ll back you up on that assessment. That gun is a money pit. The juice just ain’t worth the squeeze.

Gosh, it seems like we’ve seen that forearm once before.

Keep your eyes open and you should be able to find a 2nd gen A for $1,500 - $2,000.

Same question as the OP asked on the Shotgun World forum and much the same replies. Might as well hit all the sites for a good reply.
