A Grade at Cabelas

Not much detail given but this could be a good buy for someone looking to get a first Fox. One could have it shipped to a local store for personal inspection.

Cabela's used to do that for free; I think they charge for it now if they even still do it. Did it once when it was free; haven't done it since so I don't know how much they charge.

Not much detail given on the gun but if it hasn’t sold someone could call and try to get additional details. I looked at the gun with the limited pics and doesn’t appear to be in bad shape. Just a lot of unknowns.

I took a chance on the Fox, 27043. Bass Pro ships 2nd day FedEx to my local Auburn NY Bass Pro, no charge. Guns with a 0 in the hundredth place are pretty interesting and normally special ordered. Nice wood and good dimensions for me. Nice pheasant gun. Made during what I call the puddy colored CC period, lots of straw color. If it's not right I can just not accept it. If it is right they left money on the table in my opinion. I will report back if I keep the gun.

Care to explain what the 0 in the hundreds slot means? Is that in the serial number or the order number?

I'm on a roll with Bass Pro this Month. These are the type of condition guns that i like used but not abused.

Congratulations Craig, 18053 has beautiful wood. Back to 27043, I always find it interesting when the right barrel is choked tighter than the left. Does this mean it was for incoming birds like doves or driven pheasants?

That would be my guess. If the A is a keeper it will make the travel team to SD for Pheasants and Sharpies along with the C. Perfect carry guns for the western birds, just under 7lbs.

That is a nice find. I really like the side panels, ball grip, wood and oddly enough the old recoil pad. I would not change a thing about it if I had purchased it. Congratulations!

To Craig’s point I just received gun 262700 from Josh. It letters as a Sterlingworth Skeet and was shipped in 1936. This was a continuation of the upland and skeet gun with the exterior built as a Sterlingworth. In reading articles by Wyraz, Headrick and Noreen this appears there weren’t many built in twenty gauge. I was intrigued by the serial number. Hopefully someone knows the history of this gun. Always nice to do business with Josh.

Great additions Craig and loggy! Very nice. I just got back late last night from North Dakota delivering bulls. I’ve been to Oregon, Nebraska and the dakotas. While everywhere is in moderate to severe drought. The mild winter was apparently good on the bird populations. I’ve never seen so many carry over pheasants and Huns over such a large area before. I’d say barring something unforeseen happening this fall will be a terrific year for upland hunting.
