Your dog looks very proud, almost like an old-time sepia picture where the posers had to sit still a long time for the exposure to set.

It’s a 16 gauge later Utica gun with a straight stock. It’s choked mod/full, so I have been reloading low pressure shells with spreader wads. Four weight 28” barrels so it’s a dream to carry in the woods. It’s one of those guns that you just can’t help but to smile while using. I purchased is locally a couple years ago after getting my new puppy. I was able to spend a week in the UP with my son this year and that made everything all that much better! Walter has turned into a fantastic hunting dog and he was thrilled I held up my end of the deal a few times!

He was very proud. Had to wait till the end of the day for photos as patience is not his middle name! Lol

Congratulations on Walter and his field work. But kudos to you for not reaming those chokes and taking the time to develop spreader loads.

Great post, dog and gun! Walter is a dog I could hunt with; his bearing says it all. Agree with Daryl C on the spreader loads - when I reloaded a lot years ago I fooled around with some real killers using M and F choked guns. Best combo I ever hit on was very light 12 ga. 7/8 oz. # 7.5, 8s and 9s for small upland birds using a homemade X-box spreader wad (picture 2 playing cards slit down the middle and place 90 degrees to one another in the shot cup wad). Cut back on powder charges for high velocity recipies and instead used hard, high antimony content shot (mag and sometimes nickel plated flyer shot). Results were impressive! Straight grip upland guns put the hook in me big time! Kevin

He’s a field bred English Cocker. He’ll be three in February. He’s been a great dog…
