possibly odd sterlingworth (question)
Hello all, apologies if this is the wrong area. I recently inherited about 4 sterlingworths and one A grade, and i have this one sterlingworth i cannot figure out. it's got what appears to be a recessed pin, low SN (like 56k) but barrels are marked Savage, and the barrels are numbered to the gun. maybe this was an end of production parts bin gun? anyone seen anything like this before? I'm a milsurp millennial, not a double barrel guy so I dont know too much about these.

Re: possibly odd sterlingworth (question)
Interesting gun. It started life as a 1911 vintage Sterlingworth. It was to Savage in the 1950s for a new stock and forearm. Savage had a policy that before any work would be done on any Philadelphia marked gun the barrels would be measured and if deemed suitable would be rechambered to 2 3/4-inch and proof tested at the owner's risk. If the barrels were deemed unsuitable, they would be destroyed, and new barrels fitted at cost as a matter of customer good will. Both the stock and forearm wood are the late 1930s Savage style. Or, the other possibility the original barrels were damaged, and the customer sprung for Savage to restock and rebarrel the 1912 vintage frame. Either way the end result would be the gun we see today.

I guess thats why it feels like it locks up like it's brand new. Too bad those barrels were cut down at some point. What a neat piece of information! Thanks!

Re: possibly odd sterlingworth (question)
What length are the Chicopee Falls barrels? Could we see a picture of the barrel flats and one the inside of the forearm?

Please continue to use the nail as the front bead. That's a great example of "Americana". I'll bet it' a grouse killer, and wouldn't it be nice if that old gun could talk.

Thanks for the additional pictures. I was hoping to see a numeral 2 under the serial number on the barrel flats and forearm iron, but no such luck.

Thanks for the picture of the nail. “Classic!”
“2” means it’s the second of a two barrel set.

Was the Miller single trigger a factory option or was this an aftermarket thing?
Philly gun, SN around 91k

Like Jeff said aftermarket but IMO the finest single trigger you can have on your double if you kike single triggers.
