Fox Collectors

I know I'm going to stir up a wasp nest, but I'm a complete D.A. when it comes to " don't let anyone know the serial number" only give first two or three numbers. Most all gun dealers do not give any #'s on guns they advertise and act suspicious if you call and want to know the serial #. Is everybody afraid they may have a stolen gun and the blue light boys will come pick it up. And it seems they never get the fellow that stole it, only your gun. My problem? Relating to fox guns the serial # tells me a lot about the gun and to more infro on the gun which is at my finger tips, plus I'm aways interested in a consecutive serial # to a gun that I own, isn't everyone? Wouldn"t you like to have 2 Super Foxes with consecutive numbers? Okay, bring on the flak, I've got my flak jacket on.

No flak, just my opinions. Gun registration is a major concern to many. A lot of gents don't want to communicate the exact s/n of the gun(s) they own on the WORLD WIDE WEB. Next, the probability of finding a sequential serial number to a gun you already own is ~ nil. Lastly, right now it takes weeks to get a letter to verify the Fox factory specs by serial number, if available at all. Most all gun deals won't wait that long. Thus, having the exact s/n while a deal is cooking for a Fox is generally of little practical value - at least in my experience. Silvers

I have bought several guns in the last year, locally and distant. While I like to know the serial number it would not be a deal killer on a gun I was interested in. Many other items are much more important. I have a couple of interesting gun purchase stories I'll share with your gents soon as the second one is complete. Stay tuned. Would we want to start a thread on purchase stories, good or bad?

Silvers: Understand, and am as concerned about putting out infro on web, but if someone or as dealers do, give full description and serial # except for last two numbers, just doesn't make sense to me. I realize most people can't get the infro soon enough and thats bad. I can get the infro so the number is important to me.

I don't have any consecutive Foxes but I do have at least one super fox consecutive to one of the other members gun. So guess if I could get together with him and one of us talk the other out of his gun, then one of us would probably have the only consecutive pair of super foxes around! Maybe!!!!

Mr Cargie you got me to bite. how can you get the fox record info by sereal number with out sending letter reqest to Mr. Callahan/

Cargie, I appreciate your perspective and agree in some cases it might be good to get the complete number. However I'm mainly a Fox shooter and hunter, not that involved in the nuances of collecting. I have at times asked for the complete s/n and so far haven't had a problem getting it. Not to say it doesn't happen the dealer or seller is super secret on the subject. I'm also in agreement a pair of consecutive Super Foxes, Sterlingworths or whatever would be nice to have. Especially if the owner could unravel the different paths they took since leaving the factory! Frank

The serial numbers of the tens of thousands of guns we look at at gun shows every year have easily visible serial numbers. I don't see the difference. On the PGCA site, full serial numbers are commonly discussed because the Parker Serialization Book assists in documenting the originality of the guns being discussed. Also many members have serial number information in their personal research collections. The same situation exists in the Fox Collectors Association. A poster here who happens to cut Mr. Callahan's grass probably gets his information faster than I would. Last night, I bought a Maker's Mark for a guy who owns a copy of the Fox cards. I get my info pretty fast if I need it bad enough to ask. I don't ask very often.
